Kokoro Joy

Sometimes an object makes me smile, allowing a moment of joy. Ingo Maurer lighting almost universally achieves this for me. This morning we lit Kokoro and I realized how much it was needed. My heart leapt; it is perfect.

Kokoro by Ingo Maurer, $1745.00

The Kokoro is from Maurer’s MaMo Nouchies series. It reminds me of a dancer it sways a bit, a heart shaped reflector sends a little beam of love across the room. This might be its moment.

New at Inform Interiors: Anglepoise + Paul Smith Type 75 Edition Two

ANGLEPOISE + PAUL SMITH
"After the success of my first Anglepoise lamp, I'm very happy to be working with them again on a fresh version.  I hope everyone likes it!"- Paul Smith
Once again Paul Smith has collaborated with Anglepoise to create Type 75 Desk Lamp-Paul Smith-Edition Two.  This lamp is a testament to this designer's remarkable deftness in instilling modernity and new life into a well-loved design classic.  The lamps will be available from September, ready for the start of the festive season.

If Edition One, with its sunny combination of cornflower, fuchsia and lime, is evocative of summer, then the Edition Two is its alter ego, evoking the deep, rich hues of autumn.  Combined with deep slate and cool grey, the striking mix of sumptuous, jewel-like colors is smart, restrained, sophisticated. Add a bold accent of orange - that element of surprise so intrinsic to Paul Smith style - and the colors take on a new intensity.

Seen in tandem, each Edition assumes a distinct and contrasting identity, helped, no doubt, by the antheopomorphic form of the lamps themselves: Edition One the more playful, perhaps more feminine of the two and Edition Two its stunning new counterpart.

Anglepoise + Paul Smith-Edition Two $240.00 left Anglepoise + Paul Smith Edition One $240.00 right
Available now at Inform Interiors

"Anglepoise, never out of fashion and a product that will last and last, and Paul Smith, a special slant  on design with invention, humor and some charming eccentricity: a unique design partnership of two great British companies"--Sir Kenneth Grange

New to Inform: Foscarini Diesel Drumbox

Foscarini celebrated their 30th anniversary last year. Founded by Alessandro Vecchiato and Carlo Urbinati, in Foscarini's 31 year history, they have produced designs from such designers and architects such as Nendo, Patricia Urquiola, Marc Sadler, Tom Dixon, Werner Aisslinger, Anderson & Voll, Rodolfo Dordoni and Ludovica and Roberto Palomba to name a few. Foscarini as a company utilizes the idea and spirit of "pure emotion."

Drumbox Table
"It might be as simple as the fact that we like to focus on emotion. But it's also a deep consideration of what we're doing, where we're doing it and what we're offering. We strongly feel that we are a privileged people working on something that is really important - light." Carlo Urbinati.

The new Foscarini Diesel Drumbox series was inspired by lighting used on photo shoots - all the way down to the detail that the material the drum is made from comes from the world of technical clothing. The shade is made of highly reflective treated linen teamed up with rip stop super lightweight polyester with heat-sealed seams like those on diving wetsuits. There are two variants - white for pale, diffused light customized with a fluorescent yellow sign or grey for a more marked contrast with the pail front section. Drumbox can be used anywhere and in anyway you like, as a table, suspension or floor lamp, on its own or in a group composition on a single tubular metal stem and in the most diverse settings. On view now at Inform!

New in the Showroom: Yumi Floor Lamp by Shigeru Ban for Fontana Arte

The new Yumi floor lamp from Fontana Arte synthesizes 2014 Pritzker prize-winner Shigeru Ban's approach to form within his architecture into a stunningly lit and visually poetic arc lamp. This is a lamp, perfect over a desk, dining table or seating area, which almost disappears in both the room it inhabits and your electric bill, due to its' LED lighting and thin carbon fiber frame.

Ban's architecture has been described as "balletic", and this lamp, which reaches 9'4" out and 91.7" high, is clearly an extension of the same principles and aesthetics he applies to the rest of his work. Ban has not produced many pieces of furniture over his 30 practicing years an architect, so this collaboration with lighting powerhouse Fontana Arte is a chance to live with a rare and expressive piece of his creative oeuvre.

Flos Re-Lighting Gino Sarfatti

Rational Light

Italian lighting designer Gino Sarfatti, created over 600 light fittings between 1939 and the early 1970’s.  As a self-taught designer, he learned though constant experimentation and reinvention.  His early education as an engineer can be seen in the rational beauty of his designs.

Sarfatti eagerly incorporated the newest technologies into his designs and was one of the first to creatively integrate fluorescent and halogen lamps.  It is only fitting, 50 years later, his pieces are retrofitted incorporate the newest lighting technology.  While the upmost respect was paid the intent and original forms of each piece, five pieces from Gino Sarfatti’s collection were reworked to incorporate LED lighting.

The “Re-lighting” of Sarfatti’s work brings his iconic pieces back into our collective consciousness.  This body of work, recently released by Flos, can be seen in our showroom.  Come interact with and experience these pieces for yourself.
