Now in the Showroom: Walter Knoll Saddle Chairs!

Walter Knoll has reissued this legendary saddle chair, once designed as the Coco Chair for Italian manufacturer Matteo Grassi. An example of precise craftsmanship, it remains classically austere while being exceptionally comfortable. A 21st century interpretation by EOOS, it has improved seating comfort, with updated dimension and proportions. The continuous leather "robe" envelops the frame's flowing line, while beautifully polished edges and precise seams define the shape. Outstanding seating pleasure is the result of taut belts in the seat making the Saddle Chair a true 3-hour sit, perfect for the dining room and boardroom. We have both the armed and armless versions here in the showroom - come and sit down and experience impressive comfort for yourself.

New in the Showroom: Carl Hansen

Spring is here and blooming in the Pacific Northwest. Lush greens and cool blues are everywhere outside and inside the showroom. We have new colorful editions of the classic Wishbone chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen. We also have the reissued CH825 Credenza also by Hans Wegner. Designed in 1958, it has been reissued on Wegner's 100th birthday. Carl Hansen used Wegner's original drawings to bring the beautiful and clean-lined credenza to life. It is not just a simple cabinet, it uses roller shutter doors which require double sides and rear panel. The roller shutter doors run on a track between the two facades and disappear when opened. Upon seeing the cabinet in person, this is not obvious and with the exquisite craftsmanship of Carl Hansen, opening the cabinet is seamless and like magic. Stop by the showroom to see in person today, happy Spring!

Hee for HAY

One of our favorite new lines at Inform is HAY and Wrong for HAY out of Denmark. They do everything from chairs, tables, rugs, mirrors and accessories all with a fun edge. I love their outdoor pieces as well and really believe they compliment our simple, clean style of the NW. "The philosophy behind the Hee Chair was to take an archetypal chair and perfect it down to the last detail while cutting expression to the bone. Like a line drawing, it wraps metro after metro of metal wire into neat, straight lines in three versions: bar stool, lounge chair and dining chair." Available to see and sit at Inform now!

New to Inform: Foscarini Diesel Drumbox

Foscarini celebrated their 30th anniversary last year. Founded by Alessandro Vecchiato and Carlo Urbinati, in Foscarini's 31 year history, they have produced designs from such designers and architects such as Nendo, Patricia Urquiola, Marc Sadler, Tom Dixon, Werner Aisslinger, Anderson & Voll, Rodolfo Dordoni and Ludovica and Roberto Palomba to name a few. Foscarini as a company utilizes the idea and spirit of "pure emotion."

"It might be as simple as the fact that we like to focus on emotion. But it's also a deep consideration of what we're doing, where we're doing it and what we're offering. We strongly feel that we are a privileged people working on something that is really important - light." Carlo Urbinati.

The new Foscarini Diesel Drumbox series was inspired by lighting used on photo shoots - all the way down to the detail that the material the drum is made from comes from the world of technical clothing. The shade is made of highly reflective treated linen teamed up with rip stop super lightweight polyester with heat-sealed seams like those on diving wetsuits. There are two variants - white for pale, diffused light customized with a fluorescent yellow sign or grey for a more marked contrast with the pail front section. Drumbox can be used anywhere and in anyway you like, as a table, suspension or floor lamp, on its own or in a group composition on a single tubular metal stem and in the most diverse settings. On view now at Inform!

The 528 Indochine chair from Charlotte Perriand is a small swivel chair, perfectly paired with the 527 Mexique Desk, also from Perriand. The Mexique is available in coffee table height as well. The 381 Torei tables from Luca Nichetto pair well with any of the sofas in Cassina's collection. They are available in various shapes with marble and wood tops. While the 606 Barrel chair has been in the collection for some time, it is new on the floor to Inform. A masterpiece from one of the most storied American architects of the 20th century.

New to Inform: Washington Collection for Knoll by David Adjaye

New at Inform is the beautiful Washington Collection for Knoll by architect David Adjaye. His first collection of furniture is inspired by his architecture and sculpture. Inform is now showing the cantilevered side chair in both copper and nylon. The Washington Skin chair is available in seven different colors. Meanwhile, the Washington Skeleton chair is made from aluminum and available in six different finishes, including the copper coated version that we have here in the showroom.

Future additions to the collection are a club chair, an ottoman, a side table and a monumental coffee table. To mark Knoll's 75th anniversary a limited edition of 75 of the coffee table in bronze will be available. The table has a roughhewn exterior bronze finish but the interior is hand polished and highly reflective.

David Adjay said, "It has been hugely exciting to work with Knoll's team. The design concept has been enriched by the intensely collaborative engagement and as a result, this collection challenges materiality and form in much the same way that I try to work within the architectural context."

New at Inform: Knoll Barber Osgerby Sofa

A notable new arrival in our showroom this month is the well tailored sofa from Knoll pictured above, described as a “calm” design by it’s creators Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.

Shown with the subtly stylish orange leg detail, this generously proportioned and luxurious sofa is both architectural and comfortable, attributes few sofas are able to blend successfully within a single design.

New at Inform: Dennis Parren

“This lamp [is] designed not to be understood but to show that light is the only rightful owner of color.” – Dennis Parren.

Three different-coloured LEDs project light upward from a circular platform at the base of the CMYK lamp, past thin white metal bars that split the light to cast cyan, magenta and yellow shadows onto surrounding surfaces. Red, green and blue shadows are created where the different colors overlap. Parren explains how the properties of LED bulbs enabled him "to show how the primary colors of light - red, green and blue - on the one hand, and the pigment colours - cyan, magenta and yellow - on the other, interact. The effect it produces may be called the aesthetics of LED light."

Dennis Parren Studio is based out of the Netherlands.
